The explosive growth of the Internet has introduced advanced services facilitating our ever day life. On the other hand, it created increased dependence on computer systems, which may be seen as an additional source of vulnerability to disruption scenarios due to both physical and cyber-based incidents. This could be applied to decentralized critical infrastructure management systems, which play a key role in reducing costs and improving the quality of service of industrial processes, such as electricity distribution. This talk is focused on the cyber security of interconnected Critical Infrastructures (CIs), and especially Cyber-Physical CIs. A novel approach for simulating and emulating parts of critical interconnected infrastructures is presented, which is used as a testbed for policy supporting and research purposes.
Yannis Soupionis is a scientific/technical project officer and researcher at the Institute for the Protection and Security of the Citizen (IPSC) at Joint Research Center (JRC) of the European Commission (EC) in Italy. He obtained his BSc in Informatics and Telecommunications from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He received his MSc in Information Systems and his PhD in Information System Security from Athens University of Economics and Business. Currently, his work includes cyber-security in cyber-physical and industrial control systems (e.g. smart grid), adaptive real-time security and intrusion detection systems.
