Ausschreibung

So rückt der Master-Abschluss näher: Ab sofort können sich herausragende Informatik-Studentinnen wieder um das Helmut-Veith-Stipendium bewerben. Die Auszeichnung umfasst ein Stipendium in Höhe von 6.000 Euro jährlich für ein Masterstudium an der TU Wien und wird an exzellente Studentinnen im Bereich Informatik vergeben. Die Fakultät für Informatik fördert damit engagierte Frauen auf dem Weg zum Master in Computerwissenschaften. Interessierte Kandidatinnen können sich bis zum 20. November (!) für das Stipendium bewerben.

Die Idee zu einem Förderpreis stammt aus dem beruflichen und privaten Umfeld des TU-Informatikers Helmut Veith, der 2016 im Alter von nur 45 Jahren verstorben ist. Mit Unterstützung der TU Wien sowie des Wolfgang Pauli Instituts, und Spenden von KollegInnen und FreundInnenwerden seitdem Studentinnen gefördert, die sich für die Forschungsgebiete Veiths interessieren und einen englischsprachigen Master an der TU Wien absolvieren möchten. Das Stipendium kann bei Studienerfolg für ein zweites Jahr verlängert werden. Außerdem entfallen für die Preisträgerin die Studiengebühren. Im März 2017 wurde die Niederländerin Marieelle Rietdijk als erste Stipendiatin prämiert.

The Vienna Center for Logic and Algorithms (VCLA) invites academically excellent female applicants in pursuit (or planning to pursue) a master degree in Computer Sciences at TU Wien to apply for Helmut Veith Stipend. The recipients of Helmut Veith Stipend receive EUR 6000 annually for the duration of up to two years, and waiver of all tuition fees for the study at TU Wien. The application deadline is November 30, 2017.

About Helmut Veith

The stipend is named to honour the memory of Helmut Veith (1971–2016), specifically his international influential research, and his visionary mentorship of building bridges between the computer science and the society. The Helmut Veith Stipend continues the late scholar´s support of female scientist in the field of computer science, and his backing of the revival era in the Austrian logic scene.
