The Institute of Computer Aided Automation is engaged in scientific and application-oriented research, on the one hand in the areas of computer vision, image processing and pattern recognition, on the other hand in the areas of automation technology, decentralised automation systems, security relevant systems as well as in industrial software technology.

The following research topics are current focus points of the institute: image analysis and pattern recognition, media informatics, visual computing, process automation, building and home automation, selected topics in information systems, methodological aspects of the runtime behaviour of programs, security, engineer compliant advancement and quality management models and methods for the development of large software systems, as well as industrial visualisation and usability engineering.
