National Research Instituts of Informatics (NII) Tokyo, Japan

In 2009, the National Institute of Informatics (NII) of Japan and TU WIEN signes a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) about research cooperation between the institutions, which should foster the pursuit of joint research activities, projects, and researcher exchange.

The NII, founded in 2000 and located in Tokyo close to the Imperial Garden, is the leading Japanese research institution on informatics, and has partnership agreements with many high class research institutions worldwide.

Professor Henri Angelino, the acting Director of the Global Liaison Office at NII, is visiting our university from December 3-4, in order to foster the collaboration and exchange, and to obtain input from our side. He will present the NII and its liaison program, in particular for the collaboration between NII and TU Wien, in a short presentation before the EPILOG talks.

The liaison program includes e.g. an International Internship Program, with grants for students (MSc, PhD) and postdocs for longer term stays in Japan. Senior researchers and academic staff may visit for the NII International advanced lectures series on ICT, which are research seminars on a specific topic given by a “special lecturer”.

Students and staff of our unversity has already taken advantage of the program, but its usage should be increased and collaboration strengthened.

We are looking forward to welcome you at this event, which will provide a unique opportunity to obtain information about NII and its programs.

As a supplement, Thomas Rief will briefly present the Japan Austria Science Exchange Center (JASEC) at our university, which offers exchange programs for research and study also with other research institutions and universities.
