SPARQL is the upcoming query language for the Semantic Web, at the moment short before getting the standards recommendation from W3C. In this talk we will discuss preliminary results on translating SPARQL++ to Logic Programming under the Answer Set Semantics. SPARQL++ is an extended version of the RDF query language SPARQL enriching its basic concepts by ontology mappings, RDFS inferences, built-in functions and aggregates. We will show that these extensions nicely fit with an evaluation in Datalog engines. Since the proposed added constructs in SPARQL++ increase the expressivity of SPARQL, new challenges arise for efficient query evaluation algorithms
About Axel Polleres
Dr. Axel Polleres obtained his PhD in Computer Science at the Vienna University of Technology in 2003. He was working at DERI at the Leopold-Franzens Universitaet Innsbruck in the areas of Semantic Web Services, Ontologies, Rules Languages and Logic Programming from 2003 to early 2006. Continuing this research he worked at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, Madrid, under a "Juan de la Cierva" research fellowship until March 2007 and joined DERI Galway at the National University of Ireland, Galway, in April 2007. Dr. Polleres published more than 30 articles in journals, books and as refereed Conference and Workshop contributions.Ongoing research projects and working groups he is participating in include WSMO, WSML, and the W3C Rule Interchange Format (RIF) WG.
