But what happens when components in web services need to interact in more sophisticated ways than just sending a message?

Web services interact through messages to ensure a robust and coupled interaction. But what happens when components need to interact in more sophisticated ways than just sending a message? That is where conversations, choreography, and orchestrations come into play. A number of standards help to describe conversations, but there is very little guidance as to how to design a good conversation. Conversation patterns document common forms of conversations in the design pattern format, highlighting design trade-offs and popular implementations.
