Abstract

Smart cities seem to be one of the modern administrative / development concepts, trying to combine urban areas’ development with a higher level of citizens’ participation. However, there is a lack of understanding potential to introduce the concept due to possible unwillingness to accept a new form of relations by the citizens. Results of empirical analyses show that people are refusing to use technology above the level of their needs and that they are showing little interest in participating in matters of governance, which denote smart cities to develop in reality.

Biography

Uroš Pinterič, PhD is associate professor at Faculty of Social Sciences at St Cyril and Methodius University in Trnava and post-doc researcher at Charles university in Prague. His predominant research is focused on reform of public administration and in this sense also in the use of ICT in relations between citizens and government.
