Computer Engineering

Computer engineering at the Faculty of Informatics is based on an integral approach combining informatics, communications technology and microelectronics. The primary area of research is embedded systems, which are an essential part of many objects in everyday life.

Embedded microprocessors can be found in communication devices, cars and medical equipment as well as industrial plants, domestic appliances and consumer electronics. They result in intelligent, user-friendly and safe products which are increasingly able to communicate with other appliances in their environment and therefore act as part of a larger system. In the face of growing system complexity there is a need to guarantee error tolerance, security, real-time capability and resource efficiency. Regardless of the strong link with microelectronics, modern embedded systems thus increasingly rely on models, algorithms and protocols – the core of computer engineering.
