Media Informatics und Visual Computing

Virtual and augmented reality technologies and their applications are becoming increasingly important in the field of computer graphics. Key areas of development include the visualisation of large data volumes, the development of new interaction technologies, tracking and surveillance applications as well as human-computer interaction in the broadest sense.

New methods for processing image data in real time are of significant interest both in computer graphics (e.g. for the generation of realistic images) and in image analysis (e.g. for video analysis in time-critical security applications). As we make more use of computers, digital cameras and mobile phones equipped with digital cameras, there is a growing need to develop ‘artificial vision’ systems which can automatically analyse and intelligently process recorded image data. Another key area is the development of methods and tools for designing electronic and interactive media.
