TU Wien Informatics is leading the eInformatics@Austria project to create and test Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) for the basic teaching of computer science. 1nG0 - Informatik Grundlagen Online consists of diverse courses in programming, databases, data structures, modeling, artificial intelligence, and more.

TU Wien Informatics, the University of Innsbruck (UIBK), the Unversity of Klagenfurt (AAU), JKU Linz, and the University of Applied Arts Vienna collaborate in the “Informatics and Digital Competencies” cluster, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF) within the “Digital and Social Transformation in Higher Education 2020-2024” program.

The MOOCs are carefully crafted for beginners and are not just standalone resources; they are integral to the teaching curriculums of the five participating universities. This integration underscores the high quality and educational value of our MOOCs, making them a significant part of formal university education. Moreover, they provide teaching materials for all interested lecturers. Currently, all courses are offered in German, but an English version is planned. This initiative marks a step forward in our commitment to making education in computer science accessible, inclusive, and globally relevant.

Where to join?

The completed online courses are available at iMOOX, Austria’s only MOOC platform developed by TU Graz and the University of Graz in 2013.

Two courses are new in winter 2023/24: Computational Modeling – watch the sneak peek introduction on this site, and the whole course here; and Databases and Logic, coming in February 2024.
