Von den 50 beim Wiener Wissenschafts-, Forschungs- und Technologiefonds (WWTF) eingereichten Anträgen empfahl eine 13-köpfige internationale Jury 12 Projekte zu fördern. Am 11. November 2008 wurde die Förderempfehlung der Jury mit einer Gesamtsumme von knapp 5 Mio. Euro durch einen Beschluss des Vorstands des WWTF bestätigt.

Fünf Projekt der 12 geförderten Projekte sowie die beiden einzigen als Projektleiterinnen erfolgreichen Frauen sind an der Fakultät für Informatik der TU Wien angesiedelt.

Die Siegerprojekte des „Information and Communication Technology“ Call der Fakultät für Informatik sind:

• Inconsistency Management for Knowledge-Integration Systems

  • Projektdauer: 3 Jahre

• Service-Oriented Data Integration

  • Projektleiter: Reinhard Pichler
  • Projektdauer: 3 Jahre

• New Methods for Analyzing, Comparing, and Solving Argumentation Problems

  • Projektleiter: Stefan Woltran
  • Projektdauer: 3 Jahre

Weiters wurde ein Projekt des VRVis (Zentrum für Virtual Reality und Visualisierung Forschungs GmbH), einem Kompetenzzentrum der Fakultät für Informatik genehmigt:

• SCALE-VS: Research on the Scalability and Confluence of Scientific Visualization and Interactive Segmentation
